No Interview, Yet...But Thinking Out Loud.
So since my interviewees have not gotten back to me (I just texted them), I will move forward for the time being and look at the direction my project is going. I came at a crossroads this past weekend in deciding which direction I should go in. I was curious about the actual characters in the game, but the more I thought about it, I wanted to find out why the real people selected the certain characters. Was it for an extension of their real life or possibly an escape? Or was it to gain the most points and get to the highest level possible? I found myself asking a lot of questions that I have been searching for. I also noted my involvement in the research, and since I am only focusing on Night Elves, why did I pick that particular group? I have no vested interest in getting to any level or gaining any experience points. I was curious as to what anyone else thought about where I am at as well, since I didn't get the chance to talk to everyone today.
And with all that, I leave you with red shirt guy stumping the creators.

The Real Heroes
I figured since Osama was killed last night that I would blog about it because it is one of the biggest culturals moments since that wedding. I was watching a movie with my friends and my friend got a text saying, "Have you seen the movie "The Town?" Bin Laden is killed?" My friend read it out loud and she was so confused as to why bin Laden was in the movie. We did not think anything about it until our phones/facebook/twitter exploded with the news that Osama was dead.
I immediately went back to 9/11 and the moment I found out about evil, terrorists, and murder. I remember sitting in Mrs. Callahan's sixth grade homeroom and not really understanding the severity that our country would be changed forever. The sense of community and unity was especially evident last night, hearing all the firecrackers and cheers going on Uptown.
I was sitting next to my friend, who was in the Navy for the past 8 years, and wanted to get his reaction to how he felt about Osama being killed. He said it was definitely a blow to Al-Qaeda but that there are enough people that will continue to create terror, especially to try to do a retalitory act somewhere overseas. He also talked about how much skill was needed to carry out this operation and that the Navy SEALs are the best Special Ops unit to lead the mission.
I think that our troops sometimes are forgotten for the most part.
They have been fighting for almost 10 years.
That's who I was proud of last night

High Fest? Dry Fest? Pie Fest?
This past Saturday was of course High Fest. I was content on sitting on my porch with the pooch and hanging out with all my friends at my own house, but by 5 pm everyone wanted to go so we made the trek (1.2 miles according to Google maps), all uphill. Any fest is the perfect time to people watch with so many different people intoxicated in one small area. On the walk there myself and two other girls I was with attempted to come up with as many names as possible that rhyme with high (which is like 3435423 words). All the while laughing we noticed there were definitely an increase in uniformed cops and underage kids awkwardly carrying their bookbags full of beer (who are you kidding? You might as well just carry it pal). We only stayed on the street for an hour when we saw a chubby little guy vomit on his shirt. I read that the fest was much more tame which is a good outlook to the future weekends, especially PalmerFest which has been terrible the past couple of years. Hopefully everyone else had a safe start to the fest season!

A Boston Weekend
This past weekend I saw "The Fighter," starring Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale. It centers around the career of Mickey Ward, a boxer from Lowell, Massachusetts and the complicated relationship with his family. Instead of just focusing on his boxing career, the movie really focused on Mickey's brother, Dickey. Dickey was the older brother and was once a boxer but stumbled upon a heavy addiction to crack cocaine and alcohol that jeopardizes Mickey's future. Overall I was really impressed and would definitely watch it again.

Background Info on WoW
I knew I was a n00b when it came to World of Warcraft, but I did not know just to what extent. I went to the Beginner's Guide to read what the game was all about. It is viewed as a Massive Multiplayer, which allows thousands to play the game. Each character has traits and specialties, strengths and weaknesses. The amount of immersion is varied; you can have huge histories or not at all.
The basis of the game revolves around fighting monsters and going on various quests. There seems to be so much information and support for the game. On the official website there are several community forums, not including all the other hits I got on Google by fans of the game. It is almost overwhelming the wealth of information and knowledge about the game. It really feels like its own universe.
